R5 Extra Spicy

With the cooler temps of fall now here, consider basking in the warm glow of a striking one-of-a-kind hand-blown glass-and-iron chandelier like this one currently hanging in the foyer of an Armonk home. Inspired by the Venetian work of celebrated glass artist Dale Chihuly, known for his use of elongated sections of glass, this whimsical nod to a hanging bunch of dried chili peppers was designed by architect Lucio Di Leo, principal of Studio RAI Architectural Design PC, a Pound Ridge architectural design group (914-273-6843) and then handcrafted by glass artist John Burchetta, formerly of Brewster, New York, and blacksmith Vaclav Barina of Howells, New York. Close to eight feet long and weighing about 300 pounds, the fixture is suspended by a pulley system that allows it to be lowered so that each piece of glass can be removed for cleaning. Di Leo’s work is all custom-designed; a piece similar in size and intricacy to the one shown costs about $40,000. Not enamored of orange? Not to worry, says Di Leo. “The range of available colors is infinite.” Allow five months for delivery.
