New Home Boutique
Maisonette
578 Warburton Ave, Hastings-on-Hudson
(914) 231-7454; maisonetteshoppe.com
There’s a lot to love at this new intimate home boutique with a clean, streamlined vibe and mid-century influences. Owner Maria Churchill, an East Village transplant and Pratt Institute grad, has a great eye for assembling whimsical gifts—we were tempted to throw a dinner party just to hint heavily for the paint box collection of candles—and special home accents like eco-friendly felted wool animal heads, French linens, and puffy empty wall frames in punchy hues. Churchill sources from across the globe—the sheepskin pillows by Auskin ($65 to $115) hail from New Zealand—to right in her business backyard, with graphic-looking throws from recycled cotton by In2Green in Hastings.

Then again, if you are in need of an update, the onsite designers can walk you through their products and vendors and create a room for you that’s just as jaw-dropping.

Real Old World craftsmanship and a fabulous new fabrics collection—sumptuous velvets, ultra-soft mohairs, fine Belgian linens, and woven prints by Lee Jofa, Zoffany, Designers Guild, and the like—combine to beautiful effect here. New owners have relocated and re-fashioned the longtime Reupholstery By Anna into a custom home-furnishings studio specializing in upholstery. The impeccable craftsmanship in the on-site workshop is courtesy of master seamstress Anna Maraldo, the business’s previous owner, plus another expert sewer and several upholsterers. “My fashion background makes me really attuned to what’s new in the textile industry,” says co-owner Elizabeth Calderone. “And your house is just like your wardrobe—it needs to be updated.” Also offered: wallpaper, window treatments, fabric headboards, and bedroom ensembles.

Home Décor
The Silk Road
101 Pondfield Rd, Bronxville
(914) 337-2177; thesilkroadny.com
Owner Susan Piper is still “bringing far-away places closer to home,” but in a newly brightened space, where hand-carved, rosewood elephant bookends from India feel at home alongside a weathered-look bench crafted in Coastal Living style, and linen napkins made in Old Lyme, Connecticut, match up with a set of natural-material coasters crafted in Bali. Hand-pick fabric for a tablecloth, duvet, or curtains in breezy, reimagined batik; a Jonathan Adler-esque geometric print; or micro-leopard in muted chartreuse. Then, take home a chaise in a traditional tribal design updated in blood orange and punchy peony—or at least a Dash & Albert rug sample in contemporary citrus stripes or woven in everyday white and navy.
