R5 Determining the “Best of Everything Design” in Westchester; Plus: Submit Your Project to Westchester Home's Third Annual Design Contest (Editor's Letter)

Here’s a positive sign for the home industry: Leicht, Cosentino, and Davis & Warshow have each opened new showrooms over the past couple of months in Mount Kisco alone. Upon visiting each one, I got that same sense of design envy I feel whenever I enter a showroom and see a tub that would transform my bathroom or the perfect countertop for my kitchen. Hey, a girl can dream.

That’s what a great showroom should do: inspire people to rethink their living spaces, and, yes, maybe dream a little bit, too. That is the main appeal of shelter magazines as well, offering up striking architecture, beautiful interiors, gorgeous gardens, and fabulous new products, as in our cover story, “The Best of Everything Design.”

Determining “the best” of anything is a subjective process, and, to a journalist who strives for objectivity, something of a quandary. So this year, I created an informal editorial advisory board to open up a dialog between Westchester Home and the design community. I’d like to thank interior designers Kim Freeman and Susan Anthony, landscape designer Jan Axel, and architect Jason Taylor for their assistance in guiding the content of this issue. I’m interested in hearing more from our readers—professionals and homeowners alike—about what you would like to see in our pages. Shoot me an email at nclaus@westchestermagazine.com with your suggestions.

I also hope to get a record number of submissions for our Third Annual Design Contest. Do you have a fabulous project that you’d like to share with us (and perhaps all of our readers)? We are now accepting submissions and we invite all area interior designers and architects to enter—winners will be featured in our Winter 2014 issue. (Visit westchestermagazine.com for details.) We’re looking forward to seeing your work in our pages.
