R5 Craft Work

In our Fall Arts Preview, we told you where to go when you want to head out and experience arts and culture in the county. Now, we’ll tell you what to do when you want to bring some of it home with you.
Every autumn, three arts-and-crafts fairs roll into town, unpack their booths, and wait for you to snap up the one-of-a-kind or handmade treasures. If you’re in the market for that perfect something to hang above your sofa or that conversation-starting bit of arm candy, check out the goods available at one of these fall shows.

Westchester Craft Show
October 16-18
Westchester County Center, White Plains
(914) 995-4050
Admission: $12 for adults, $10 for seniors (free for children under 12)
This show features 115 artists who hail from across the United States, and they’ll bring with them their baskets, ceramics, glass, decorative and wearable fibers, furniture, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed media, and wood. We’re talking high-end, here: Some of the artists included in the show are also represented in the permanent collections of museums across the country. The Westchester Craft Show is organized by Crafts America, a Connecticut-based company that does only three shows a year: here, in Washington, D.C., and in Palm Beach, Florida—so you probably won’t see the items you buy turning up in living rooms across New York State.

Fall Crafts at Lyndhurst
September 11-13
Lyndhurst, Tarrytown (845) 331-7900
Admission: $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, $4 for children six to 16 (free for children under six)
If coats made to look like origami and Scrabble-board handbags are your thing, you’ll want to make sure you hunt through the wares of all 300 of this show’s crafts artists. Find works in glass, leather, fiber, ceramics, metal, wood, and mixed media. If you’re dragging along family members who aren’t as into shopping as you are, send them off to eat specialty foods, listen to live music, or participate in children’s activities on the gorgeous Lyndhurst property.

Armonk Outdoor Art Show
October 3 and 4
205 Business Park Dr, Armonk
Admission: $9 for adults, $7 for seniors
(free for children 18 and under)
If you want to get a jump on your shopping—and check out what’s available before the masses so you can make a bee-line to your favorite artists as soon as the show opens—the juried Armonk Outdoor Art Show is hosting an “Art After Dark” preview and cocktail party on October 1. There, you can scope out some of the 186 juried artists’ watercolors, oil and acrylic paintings, photography, digital art, sculpture, prints, drawing, pastels, jewelry, raku, and more. One small caveat: The organizers ask you to please leave the pets at home.
