R5 County: Westchester County Airport Has No Plans to Expand

When looking at the recent trend of growth among smaller regional airports—such as Long Island MacArthur Airport, Atlantic City International Airport, and Stewart International Airport—the New York Times found that Westchester County Airport has no plans to expand or add new flights.

The county airport, which operates 58 daily flights to cities like Atlanta, Chicago, and Toronto, is at peak levels detailed by a 25-year-old county law meant to protect local residents from aircraft noise. According to the law, there can only be four commercial flights per half hour, for a total of 240 passengers per half hour.

Lawrence Saily, county transportation commissioner, told the paper: “The chances of that happening are just about as great as my getting struck by lightning and hitting the lottery on the same day.”
