R5 Best Local Karaoke Bars For Each Day of the Week

Karaoke can be found all over Westchester nowadays. If you’re an enthusiast, you probably know that “karaoke” means “empty orchestra” in Japanese—but if you visit these venues, there’s nothing empty about them. You have a chorus of friends supporting you, no matter how skilled you are (or aren’t), and some bars house serious talent. Here are a few to try on different days of the week.

Tuesdays
Black Bear Saloon, White Plains
(914) 422-3270; blackbearwp.com
A perennial favorite that sometimes features “Karaoke Idol,” it draws the Big League Kickball crowd every Tuesday. Declares General Manager Ryan McBride, “It’s a great local crowd. Around ten o’clock, they’re all looking for the microphone.”
Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway Yonkers
(914) 968-4200; empirecitycasino.com
Folks from Long Island, Connecticut, and New Jersey come to an enormous, rainbow-shaped stage with purple, pink, yellow, and silver colors arcing above. Anna Vitagliano, owner of Starlite Karaoke, runs the production at the casino’s Entertainment Lounge, featuring stadium seating with a bar at the top. “You have the audience’s full attention, and everyone looks right at you,” says singer David Jean-Jacques.

Wednesdays
Davy Byrnes, Port Chester
(914) 937-2106
This late-night spot has a rectangular bar that’s so huge you could run laps around it. True Irishmen Vince Fury and Donie Haert tend bar, making it feel like a genuine Dublin pub. If you nail a song, expect to get many shoulder slaps from appreciative audience members. It may make you feel victorious.

Pete’s has been hosting karaoke since 1989. And you don’t just stand up and sing; Pete’s has a stage and lighting. “Anybody in Westchester will tell you they have been here at one time,” says veteran host Nick Moustakas of Spotlight Entertainment.

Thursdays
Barney McNabbs, Yonkers
(914) 961-8960; barneymcnabbs.com
An award-winning show with two eight-foot screens, the NightStar DJ & Karaoke-run evening features a full stage, so rock ‘n’ roll types can get the complete experience. While Barney McNabbs doesn’t serve food, the music and drinks more than suffice here.
