Greyston Earns Brownie Points
The Greyston Foundation held its annual benefit, this year called “Celebrating Transformation,” on Yonkers’s transforming waterfront, at X2O Xaviars on the Hudson. The organization’s good works—which include assisting those in need with jobs, childcare, healthcare, and affordable housing—were evident throughout the evening. One wall contained a small gallery of paintings from participants in the art-therapy program, many of whom are living with HIV or AIDS. (The paintings were available for sale in the evening’s silent auction.) Other residents who’ve been helped by the Greyston Foundation spoke about their experiences while celebrating the evening’s honorees, Martin Ginsburg and Stew Leonard, Jr. But the best confirmation of the Foundation’s work came with dessert: Guests were treated to “Do-Goodie” brownies from the Greyston Bakery, staffed by the previously “hard-to-employ.” Besides providing a terrific service for Yonkers residents, the Greyston Bakery makes a mean brownie.
