“Murphy Brothers Contracting’s first priority is to serve our customers with the highest level of honesty and workmanship; our integrity will never be compromised.”This is the mission statement Chris and Sean Murphy established and have maintained in their 30 years in business together.
What began in 1979 in their childhood home as local remodelers in Larchmont has grown into one of Westchester County’s and Fairfield County’s premier construction companies. Today, the company’s portfolio spans the borders of New York and Connecticut, reaching several historical towns and villages, into distinctive homes and clubs nestled along the shore of the Long Island Sound.
Building a business like Murphy Brothers Contracting takes hard work and persistence. Chris, a builder in every sense of the word, serves as the company’s president and construction director. Sean is the vice pesident and operations director; his focus and vision continue to shape the organization. The brothers attribute a large part of their success to the relationships they have built and maintained with the best craftsmen, tradespeople, design professionals, their many clients, and their wonderful staff.
Murphy Brothers Contracting is honored and excited about the opportunity to partner with Westchester Magazine and Open Door Family Medical Centers in the DreamHome project. Project Manager Joe Zito, Chief Designer Diane Murphy, and others within the Murphy Brothers Contracting organization, with great enthusiastic efforts, have worked hand-in-hand with Westchester Magazine’s talented staff and sponsors to lay the groundwork for this beautiful DreamHome.
The DreamHome is designed by Mount Kisco architect Barry Goewey in the American Craftsman style. Popularized in the U.S. in the early 20th century, this architectural approach emphasizes fine craftsmanship using quality materials. The designer Paul Rand said, “Art is when an idea has found its perfect form.” In the DreamHome, Murphy Brothers Contracting combines the 20th-century American Craftsman elements of fine craftsmanship and quality materials with the 21st-century “green” building style, a perfect artistic blend.
From the moment Murphy Brothers Contracting broke ground in lovely Armonk, the project began to evolve, shifting and shaping to become Westchester Magazine’s DreamHome 2009. Not only is the DreamHome a sophisticated showcase of design, expertly decorated by leading interior designers and featuring the latest amenities and furnishings, but the DreamHome is also a “green” home.
Murphy Brothers Contracting, a member of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), is deeply com-mitted to employing environmentally sound building practices to produce energy-efficient structures. As such, the company chose to have the DreamHome certified according to the guidelines established by the NAHB National Green Building Program. The certified “gold” DreamHome features many energy-efficient elements including closed-cell spray foam insulation; windows and exterior doors with Low-E II glass; geothermal air quality technology; and many more vital and interesting “green” features.
Beautiful, comfortable and environmentally responsible: Murphy Brothers Contracting believes that building “green” can be all of these. The company hopes the “green” DreamHome will encourage others to consider the many ways they can incorporate smart, energy-saving, and resource-conserving methods into their own homes and communities.
Murphy Brothers Contracting has been building beautiful structures for three decades. Yet times are changing. People desire not only quality and comfort, they want their homes to be energy-saving, with better air quality, built with respect for our natural resources. This means builders will have to change, too. Murphy Brothers Contracting has accepted this challenge and will continue to be at the forefront of the industry, serving its customers “with the highest level of honesty and workmanship; our integrity will never be compromised.”
