Jesus Estrada (on left): Brush with fame: When twenty-one in 2009, I was selected from among ten thousand hopefuls to be one of only sixteen contestants on Project Runway. Self-described style: Edgy trendsetter. Style inspiration: The edgy people dressed up on Bleecker Street and European fashions. Biggest splurge: A couple thousand dollars on my Dolce & Gabbana watch featuring real diamonds. The bling caught my eye! Top three favorite designers: Alexander McQueen, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Givenchy. Bookmarked fashion websites: tomandlorenzo.com, for the latest on fashion and amazing blogs, and style.com, for info on the latest trends and fashion shows. Best vintage find: My very old and distorted burgundy leather murse that looks like a little suitcase—it’s so hipster and edgy. It was only twenty or thirty dollars and I usually carry my sketchbook and pencils in it. Dream makeover candidate: Heidi Klum. I would love to change her up and make her look more edgy.
Jesus is shown in a gold and gray print brocade suit jacket ($398), a black knit jersey ($180), and gold and gray print brocade suit pants ($280), all by Jesus & Antonio Estrada, all available at Marteal & Estrada. His accessories include black leather gloves by Jesus & Antonio Estrada ($120), a Diesel black leather belt ($150), and black leather boots designed by Jesus & Antonio Estrada (boots not available for sale).
Antonio Estrada (on right): Take-away from first job: When I was fifteen, I worked in retail at American Eagle Outfitters and learned how to fold clothes the proper way. Personal style: Very European with a twist of punk—but I can rock a suit and tie if I have to. Top recommended fall fashion item: A black trench coat. Has a weakness for: Anything with a skull on it. Biggest splurge: I got my first pair of Dolce & Gabbana shoes when I was twenty—they were five hundred dollars. I wouldn’t have been able to afford them if I hadn’t gotten my tax return that day. Favorite item in his closet: A black blazer from Topshop that fits me like a glove. I wear it with everything—even a tank. Daydreams about splurging on: A pair of Christian Louboutin shoes. Fave accessory: ‘Murses’ or men’s purses. I have ten. Shopping haunts: H&M and Zara—their clothes are very inexpensive and fit me well. Must-see fashion TV: RuPaul’s Drag Race for the way he thinks outside the box to create a head-to-toe look. Fun fashion fact: In 2010, I was featured on a reality show about aspiring Latin American fashion designers for Discovery en Español.
Antonio is wearing a black long-sleeve jersey turtleneck ($180), a burgundy and black wool jacket with shoulder pads and metal skulls ($498), and burgundy cotton dress pants ($280), all by Jesus & Antonio Estrada and available at Marteal & Estrada.
