Publisher's Memo: Wine & Food (And Golf)

Share

With the warmer weather finally upon us, it’s time to become reacquainted with our patios, enjoy the fresh air from open windows, fire up our outdoor grills, and pull the golf clubs out from the back of the closet.

To inspire you to dust off those golf clubs, we compiled our annual Golf Guide. In this issue, our resident golf aficionado, Dave Donelson, takes us on a grand tour of some of the best courses near and far, shows us how to improve our game, and investigates how to play 18 of the toughest holes in Westchester’s “18 Bogey Monsters.”

Some of the best golf courses in the entire country are right here in Westchester. In case you didn’t know, there are 38 private clubs with 40 courses in the county. There are also 12 public courses here, including a few nine-hole courses. Maybe that’s why the PGA of America chose Westchester Country Club in Rye to host the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship June 11 to June 14. We will have the leading female golfers from around the world competing in this major championship—which has a $3.5 million purse—with live coverage on NBC and the Golf Channel.

A hard day out on the green can sure help you work up an appetite. And what’s more satisfying for a hearty appetite than a tender, juicy steak? Whether you prefer to entertain at home and prepare them yourself, or go out for the evening and have someone else do the cooking for you, you’ll benefit from this month’s cover story in which we show you how and where to enjoy the county’s best steaks.

Of course, with great steaks you need great wines. And we know a thing or two about that with our fifth annual Wine & Food Festival, which takes place June 3 through June 6, featuring more than 200 wines from around the world provided by Zachys Wine & Liquor in Scarsdale, and over 100 participating restaurants. This four-day extravaganza is one not to be missed. You’ll learn more about and experience wonderful wine and food, and you’ll explore great Westchester restaurants, too. You can see the lineup of all our events here, including our new Grand Tasting Village, Burger and Beer Blast, Chef Cooking Demonstrations, Wine Seminars, Tastemakers Dinner, Junior Chef Academy for kids, Fashion and Wine, and more.

Hope to see you out in the community. You can find me on the golf course, at the KPMG Championship, or at Westchester Magazine’s Wine & Food Festival. Cheers!
