Our Pet Project

Pets. Love ’em or…LOVE ’em. We know you love your pets. Over the months of December and January, you sent us photos of your many, many pets for our Pet Centerfold Contest (thanks to you all), and then 1,211 of you voted on whom you thought was the most precious pet of all.

Alas, we couldn’t enter our own pets. So…here, meet some of our furry heart-melters.

Associate Art Director Jessica Brown’s Max: “Max enjoys eating, meowing too much, snuggling, and taking long walks inside the litter box,” Jessica says. “His favorite pastime is leaving hair in every corner of his home in the hopes I will someday clone him.”

Associate Publisher Sam Wender’s Snickers: “He likes to nap after eating breakfast, which is five minutes after he gets up.”

Administrative Assistant Margaret Martinez’s Katie: “I found Katie when she was one week old. The vet said he didn’t think she could survive without her mother. Well, with lots of loving care, Katie survived to be the beautiful cat that she is.”

Account Excecutive Jill Coronel-Contacessa’s Scratchy: “My daughter Gabi named my cat Scratchy, which was apropos, considering the scratches on her face. Scratchy’s front paws are declawed now.”
Senior Editor Robert Schork’s Buffy: “My cat, Buffy—short for Buffy the Varmint Slayer—was named for her affinity for ‘killing’ her toy varmints,” he says. “My first-ever cat, Buffy proudly breaks all the cat stereotypes: she’s sweet, affectionate, comes when you call her name, loves to have her tail and tummy petted, and, best of all for me, hates smelly moist cat food.”
Assistant to the Art Deparment Marta Kujawa’s Tico: “Tico often acts like a dog; he waits for me at the door when I’m coming home, and he follows me everywhere, even to the bathroom.”
Copy Chief Carol Caffin’s Mojo: “Mojo knows that I’m his for snuggling, belly rubs, paw massages, Jumbones, and for a chance at something delicious dropping from the skillet when I’m cooking.”
Associate Art Director Jodi Cecere’s Ickus: “Ickus likes sleeping in sunbeams, eating tuna from the can, and waking me up at five for breakfast.”
