A Gatsby-like Summer Party
Hudson Stage Company’s annual gala, held at the 2,500-square-foot Admiral’s House community center at Half Moon Bay in Croton-on-Hudson, attracted 130 guests, many dressed in their best summer whites. The event raised $26,000. Attendees posed in front of a 1929 Model A before entering the soirée where they were treated to passed hot and cold hors d’oeuvres provided by Chef Philippe Rayer of Croton-based L’Art Culinaire. Guests danced to vintage jazz-era music by Vince Giordano and the Night Hawks (of the HBO series Boardwalk Empire and the film The Aviator). “It was a terrific evening and by choosing to do something different—a swing dance with a band—from previous years, the gala attracted different people from all parts of Westchester,” says Olivia Sklar, who, along with Denise Bessette and Dan Foster, co-founded Hudson Stage. “With government grant money dwindling, we rely on the generous contributions of our supporters. The benefit is absolutely vital to our survival.” Hudson Stage Company, in residence at Pace University’s Woodward Hall, is headed into its 12th season, producing original plays.
