GOOD (BEAUTY) SAMARITAN
Residents of Samaritan House Women’s Shelter were treated to makeovers, courtesy of Salon Maffei and Salon Flair of White Plains and celebrity makeup artist Kelly Stirling of West Harrison at a Salon and Spa Social held at The Women’s Club of White Plains. “In this rather bleak economic environment, it is nice to see people who are struggling have some moments of bliss,” says John Rubin, director of shelter and homeless outreach services for Grace Church Community Center, which runs Samaritan House. “I have never seen the residents smile so much.” Approximately 90 guests attended, perusing booths featuring products from local salons and spas as well as jewelry. Handbag designer Anthony Luciano of Manhattan and Alicia Grande, owner of eyebrow and eyelash beauty line GrandeLASH-MD, were among the vendors. “It was a blessing that the women from the White Plains Women’s Club cared enough about Samaritan House to take the time to do something so special for our homeless residents,” says Deborah Williams, assistant director of Samaritan House. Food was provided by Ernesto’s Restaurant and wine was from Aries Wine & Spirits. Proceeds from door raffles ($1,500) benefited the Samaritan House. The 19-bed sheleter provides services for women suffering from substance abuse, mental illness, domestic violence, and HIV/AIDS.
