New York Hospitality Group

New York Hospitality Group has long championed its combination of quality food, stellar service, and extensive community involvement. From its beginning in 1986, the business has grown from 17 full-time employees to 47 under the ownership of Peter Herrero. New York Hospitality Group includes two divisions of catering, Caperberry Events and The Great American BBQ Co., and one restaurant, Sam’s of Gedney Way in White Plains.

New York Hospitality Group’s commitment to community service begins with its owner, Herrero, who doubles as the food chair for the Food Bank for Westchester. The community service commitment is instilled in workers before they even come on board—potential employees are told during the interview process that a number of volunteer days during each year would be encouraged as part of their employment.

“You can work for any company, but there aren’t many community-oriented companies that make you feel like you make a difference,” Herrero explains.

The ethos also extends to the restaurant, which has provided a number of local nonprofits (like Westchester Children’s Association, Visiting Nurse Services of Westchester, and many others) with a “Dining for Dollars” day, where Sam’s donates 10 percent of that day’s proceeds to the selected nonprofit. Herrero and his staff also traveled to provide food for first responders and victims of Hurricane Sandy, another example of the firm’s dedication to philanthropy.
