Rare and Unusual Finds

Housed in a former 1800s residence featuring original wood floors, Kent showcases a mélange of vintage and contemporary furnishings and accessories. “We highlight pieces that have a clean, contemporary look,” says owner Michael Kalesti. “There is not a lot of mass-produced inventory. We buy from small vendors and the vintage is mostly one-of-a-kind.” Of note are the hostess-gift options, including a Japanese line of 100-percent-cotton potholders ($40) and kitchen towels dyed with natural fruit and vegetable resins ($45); glassware by iittala (set of four glasses/$75); and Simrin laminated cloth trays ($85-$195) and napkins ($65). Kalesti also offers restoration services.

Welcome Home

Tucked away on a quiet little lane off bustling Greenwich Avenue is Privet House, a delightful new décor emporium launched by Richard Lambertson, a leather goods designer for Tiffany, and Suzanne Cassano, who worked for Calvin Klein, Liz Claiborne, and Victoria Secret. The talented pair owns another Privet House in Warren, Connecticut, near their country homes in Litchfield County. Showcased throughout their shop is an assemblage of antique and vintage furniture, artwork, mirrors, and objets d’art. We coveted everything—from a gorgeous 19th-century neoclassical commode with hand-painted white Greek figures on a Wedgewood blue background ($5,800) to a quirky hand-sewn stuffed mounted deer head sporting sequined antlers ($450).
