What $36 million buys:

A haven for the horsey set. Set on a secluded, near 22-acre farm, “Palamos” includes four dry paddocks, eight feeding stalls, four foaling stalls, indoor and outdoor riding rings, a two-story octagon-shaped entertainment building, and direct access to the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation for riding. (That’s in addition to the main house—which has five bedrooms and two full baths and one half bath—and a 2,000-square-foot guesthouse, by the way.) All the wood floors in both houses, plus the wood to build the octagon building, were milled from trees cleared from the property.

What $30 million buys:

An elegant Georgian estate. “Devonshire”—a 21,000-square-foot, eight-bedroom Georgian manor—dates back to 1901, and features such fine flourishes as a Tiffany glass-domed ceiling, gold-leafed moldings, marble floors, and the original grand staircase. Old sporting types can also take advantage of the on-site tennis court, putting green, pool, and equestrian facilities on the 101.6 acre-grounds. Or, if you get tired of the Georgian surroundings, you can opt for a change of scenery in one of the outbuildings—a Victorian two-bedroom guesthouse and a four-bedroom caretaker’s house—or in the walled gardens, which were designed by Guy Lowell, architect of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

What $14 million buys:

Fun in the sun. Luxuriate outside on the slightly under 5-acre property near the swimming pool, guesthouse and cabana, hot tub, tennis court, or putting green. There’s entertainment to be had in the nine-bedroom, brick Colonial home (which boasts nine full and three half baths), too. Grab a bottle of wine from the 2,000-bottle cellar, watch a flick in the movie screening room, or cozy up to one of six fireplaces.
