Mary J. Blige, who grew up in Yonkers, opened the Mary J. Blige Center for Women in her hometown last week. The hip hop singer has been open in the past about her experiences with domestic violence and drug abuse, and therefore launched the center as a safehaven for women to be educated, empowered, and encouraged.
At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Blige spoke emotionally about growing up and seeing women around her fall victim to abuse.
