Why a Papillion: I’ve always been a big-dog kind of guy, but my wife convinced me to go with a small breed this time around. And I’m a confident enough man to walk him on a leash.
Why he’s so special: Louie is just so darn cute. He is fluffy, puffy, cuddly, and sweet.
Special talent: He’s an escape artist, a real Houdini, and can easily jump over a fence 18 inches high.
Can be found: Dancing the tango with Gigi, his older sister, another Papillion.
His personality is: Very intelligent and, when he looks into your eyes, he captivates you.
Cutest behavior: He loves to be held and snuggled and bounces over to you like a bunny when you call his name.
His itsy-bitsy flaw: He’s a climber, he’s rambunctious, and he’s tearing up the place.
Sweetest habit: He follows me everywhere, looking up innocently with those big Disneyesque eyes, his head cocked to one side, as if asking, “So what are we doing today, Dad?”
Not-so-sweet habit: Chewing on my shoes.
Guilty pleasure: Watching YouTube videos of Papillions.
Goofiest behavior: Barking at his reflection in the glass door underneath the TV. I keep explaining to him that he actually knows that dog but this fact is lost on him.
Favorite toy: Henrietta, a rubber chicken and squeak toy. It’s particularly annoying when we’re trying to sleep.
Fave game: Playing fetch.
Career aspiration: Model for Dog Fancy magazine.
Most afraid of: Being left alone in the room, when Gigi has to go out to do her business. But, for the most part, Louie is extremely confident and assertive.
He hates: If I leave the room without asking first.
Most oddball behavior: Trying to hide in the corner of the bed. His tail is totally visible.
Naughtiest thing he’s ever done: Chewed on Nyna’s Coach bag. Not a way to a mother’s heart.
He thinks he is: A much bigger dog than he is.
I think he is: A troublemaker.
Ten-second commercial: Louie is high-energy and high-maintenance; jumps around like a bunny; and is very, very fast. It’s hard to keep up with him. But we both love him so much and he shows his love in so many ways.
