After a successful 25-year career in publishing, Pam Older had had it with the whole commute-and-corner-office thing. Casting about for a new and more creative outlet, the Larchmont resident revisited her long- dormant college-era training in jewelry making. After a Manhattan shop bought one of her first pieces right off her neck, Older founded Pam Older Designs in 2003.
Six years later, her company continues to thrive. “Before I started creating jewelry, I never realized that I could be so truly passionate about something,” Older says.
Delicate and feminine in feeling, Older’s collection of necklaces, earrings, and bracelets, all handcrafted in her home studio, features semi-precious stones and pearls with silver and gold beads. For her signature Blossom line (shown here), the designer threads rustic silver beads between rich, clear, flower-like gemstone clusters to create casually elegant pieces that work equally well with designer dresses and denim.
Available online at pamolderdesigns.com or in several local shops, including Wondrous Things in Briarcliff Manor and Designer One in Larchmont, Older’s mainstay collection bears refreshingly affordable price tags, from $68 to $450. Also available: an 18-karat-gold-and-diamond bridal line, priced from $500 to $4,500.
