When you get a note from identical twins Jennifer and JoAnna Sciarrino, it is signed “twincerely yours.” And two years ago, in a Westchester Magazine story on the area’s best new spas, we noted their “contagious energy and sheer cuteness factor.” But cuteness only gets you so far; it takes skill and savvy to grow a business into one of the top beauty destinations in northern Westchester.
The twins started Derma Glow Spa in 2005—just one small room in a Long Island hair salon. They moved into more spacious quarters in North Salem in 2010, and won a Best of Westchester award for their facials the very next year, a promising start. The spa has three treatment rooms for facials and massages, a cozy nail parlor, and a carefully curated boutique filled with beauty products, jewelry, clothing, and accessories.
The business has successfully grown each year from that 10′ x 10′ room in Long Island. “From 2005 ’til today cannot even be compared!” they say. Since opening in North Salem, Jennifer and JoAnna have increased the number of services they offer by some 30 percent annually; they also have hired an additional aesthetician and brought on a plastic surgeon to perform BOTOX, JUVEDERM, and Restylane treatments.
But what differentiates this spa is its “girlfriends’ getaway” vibe. A plush sofa takes the place of traditional pedicure stations, and, while your tootsies are soaking in the oversized white metal buckets, you’re apt to start up a conversation with the twins, other clients, or the procession of people who just pop in to say hello.
Next on the business agenda for Jennifer and JoAnna is moving into a still larger space with a larger boutique area. When? “Sometime in the next three years,” they chime in at the exact same moment.
