Independence Day—Westchester Style

Who said that Westchesterites need to endure the crowds and commute of trekking to Manhattan for the Macy’s Fourth of July fireworks? We’ve got plenty of Independence Day events lined up right here in our own backyards, with perks like food, live music, and of course, fireworks.

Dobbs Ferry: Fishing derby and fireworks. Fishing derby for ages 7-15 from 9 a.m. to noon, flag-raising ceremony at noon, inflatable slide and jumping castle at 1 p.m., music at 2 p.m. with Joe Rooney, and fireworks at 9 p.m. Free. Waterfront Park, on the Hudson River. 914-693-2203.

Katonah: Festivities start at 11 a.m. with the Bearcats Jazz Band — musicians with a style rooted in the New Orleans tradition.
