Imagine glass-bottled milk and fresh eggs delivered to your doorstep, straight from the farm, courtesy of your friendly neighborhood milkman. It may sound like a scene from a bygone era, but it’s happening right now in Westchester. And while it may seem quaintly retro, in practice, it’s a thoroughly modern convenience.
Starlight Dairy, located in Yorktown Heights, is a family-owned business that has been delivering to Westchester homes since 1993. With the aid of just two drivers, husband-and-wife team Joseph and Ruth Medina deliver their goodies to about 700 homes. Their product offerings include New York’s Ronnybrook Farm and Byrne Dairy milk, as well as eggs, bacon, coffee, and yogurt. Think of it as breakfast at your doorstep.
Located farther north in Clarksville, New York, Meadowbrook Farms Dairy delivers its very own milk throughout the state. Deliveryman Gary Ziele covers the Westchester and New York City region. Owned by the Van Wie family since 1924, this family farm sticks with delivering what it knows best—top quality milk, cream, and eggs.
If you’re a believer in the fresh and local food movement, take note. It doesn’t get fresher or more local than this.
