Home Décor Advice from Westchester County Pros: the Latest Trends in Glass Kitchen Counters

Just a year or two ago, glass countertops were making their way into Westchester kitchens. What are the latest trends and innovations in glass kitchen counters? Here’s what the pros have to say.

ILLUMINATION
“We are able to illuminate them, and it’s not expensive. The glass can change colors and homeowners can also use different finishes or textures, such as blasted glass—it’s a frosted look that’s wavy on the surface.”
—Owner Anthony Maucieri, East Hill Cabinetry Briarcliff Manor

TEXTURE
“Textured glass materials—called fusion glass—are new. These are laminated glass layers, so they are thick, and many have materials embedded in them. Also being used is art glass—it almost looks hand-painted.”
—Owner Jason Landau, Amazing Spaces LLC, Briarcliff Manor

CLEARER APPEARANCE

“Because it has a clearer appearance than typical glass, we use low-iron [also known as star-fire] glass. When you look at it from the side, you don’t see the green color you usually see with regular glass.”
—President Glenn Muller, Kitchen Solutions, Inc., Bronx, NY

GREATER DEPTH
“Technology has allowed the glass to get much thicker—from one and a half inches to three inches, offering a different aesthetic.”
—Owner Joe Passero, Klaff’s, Scarsdale
