New Green Gift Shop

Field
Larchmont (914) 834-0601
This small shop specializes in mostly handmade gifts from recycled, repurposed, organic, sustainable, and/or fair-trade materials. Expect such great-looking, easy-on-the- planet (and the pocketbook) offerings as color-block pillows ($56-plus) made from dry-docked sail cloths, and multi-crayon-colored welcome mats ($30-$40) handmade from recycled flip-flops.

Green Yarn Shop

WoolWorks
Maple Grove Farm, Bedford (914) 234-9550
For a truly “made in Westchester” knitting project, start here, where you actually can pet the former owners of the wool sold. The skeins of gorgeous organic yarn here once belonged to the sheep grazing on the farm and on other neighboring organic farms. Passionate about local sustainable farming, Maple Grove Farm owner Shirley Bianco welcomes visitors to her farm and this cottage shop (open 9:00 am to noon, Monday through Saturday) where you’ll find beautiful dyed and non-dyed varieties of soft 100-percent Merino wool. Dying of the yarn is done on-site in small-kettle batches using natural pigments.
