The theme of this dining room in a beautiful turn-of-the-century house in Pelham was carried out using elements of British Arts and Crafts: metal, organic patterns (William Morris wallpaper and the Michelian rug), embroidered fabric (Donghia fabric on the Arts and Crafts screen). With Flowers, a painting by Edward Giobbi, graces the head of the table in this casual dining room in Katonah. Cool blue hues set the tone for this serene and sophisticated dining room. Maurice Jallot chairs from the 1940s complement the Lorin Marsh table, lit by a Venetian glass chandelier from Baker Furniture. golden glamour
The two crystal chandeliers define this Mediterranean-inspired dining room, enhanced by the lighted coffered ceiling finished in shimmering gold leaf. The multi-layered draperies are trimmed with handmade beaded bullion fringe; gold-leaf finals complete the ensemble. The custom-made carpet is by Couristan. mid-century modern
Over-the-top 1950s was the concept for this eclectic room in New Rochelle. Lucite Z chairs and two of Tom Dixon’s motorcycle-inspired chairs surround a massive tree bark table with jagged edges bought in Newport. Four panels of sequined drapes add drama and sparkle. The console is a Parzinger original; lamps are by Maurice Villency. Oversize display cabinets come from Lillian August. Designer: Michelle Sanchez–Boyce, Simplicity Designs, New Rochelle

dramatic dining
Two 66-inch custom tables by Evanson Studios in New York City were chosen for entertaining flexibility in this gracioius home in Purchase. For small gatherings, only one table is used; for a crowd, the two tables are combined with leaves extended. The 20-foot-long light fixture, also custom, glows with exposed filament bulbs. Blue and crème theme colors are carried out through the textured, custom-dyed Jacobsen and Balla wallpaper, chairs covered in different fabrics from Holly Hunt and Rose Tarlow, and a Tibetan rug from Patterson, Flynn, and Martin. multicultural melange
An eclectic composition of Asian and contemporary artisan elements are enveloped by ochre-colored Venetian plaster walls. The ornate gold Italian chandelier and wrought-iron gate add an Italian flavor while the silk textile on the wall and stacked boxes underneath are Asian flavors. The 18-foot ceilings are pierced with clerestory windows, bathing the room in natural light, niches contain a Southwestern urn flanked by two four-foot-high contemporary urns. The designer updated the antique chairs, which came from the owner’s parents’ house, by adding white linen cushions with tassels. Enhancing the walnut floor is a patterned area rug, created from carpeting, also from the owner’s parents’ house, which the decorator cut and bound with a suede trim.
