Sure, you love him—ratty college sweatshirt, dad jeans, and all. But this Father’s Day, why not get Dad something he could really use, wardrobe-wise? Award-winning men’s designer and Bedford resident Joseph Abboud details the five items of clothing every well-dressed man should have in his closet.
1. Gray SuitThe go-to look for getting dressed up, a nicely tailored gray suit is a sign of confidence, says Abboud. “It’s not too flashy and you can wear it with so many shirt-and-tie combinations,” he adds. “It’s the most flexible color to wear with accessories.” |
2. Navy Blazer“The navy blazer is your way of feeling a little bit dressed up, with a shirt and tie, or you can even dress it down, with jeans.” The blazers come in winter weights and summer weights and, he adds, “every guy looks good in one.” - Advertisement -

3. Blue Jeans“The best pair of blue jeans has the right amount of wash,” says Abboud. “It’s not over-washed or over-distressed, but not too stiff or hard, either.” Ideally, it’s a slightly darker, deeper indigo blue with a straight leg—and never too baggy. Levi’s jeans; www.levis.com |
4. White Shirt“Every guy looks clean, fresh, and crisp in the classic white, long-sleeved dress shirt,” says Abboud, who recommends a new modern fit, which is trimmer. “You can always roll up the sleeves and wear it with jeans or a dark suit,” he adds, noting that cotton is the best fabric in which to get this staple. 5. Leather JacketLook for a quality, worn, natural-brown leather jacket with not too much embellishment or tricky pockets. A shorter, classic kind of shape, says Abboud, like a bomber-type jacket, is perfect. “The leather jacket and jeans is like Hollywood, kind of cool,” he adds, “and as you wear the jackets and they get older, they look even nicer.” Members Only jacket; www.membersonlyoriginal.com |
