What the Day Owes to the Night

Hervè Koubi is a decorated French-Algerian choreographer often recognized for his distinctive dance creations. What the Day Owes to the Night does not fall short of Koubi’s unmistakable style, using acrobatics, as well as urban and contemporary dance techniques to produce a jaw-dropping performance. This October, see La Compagnie Hervè Koubi at Fairfield University’s Quick Center for the Arts, as this all-male cast portrays community and kinship through the power of dance.

Dancers and musicians rarely share the stage during dance recitals. However, Frèdèrick Gravel has used his talents as a choreographer and musician to break these norms and fuse acting and dance onstage. Local audiences will be able to witness how Gravel’s Tour Se Pète La Gueule, Chèrie incorporates the elements of classical footwork, as well as the aspects of live music and vibrant lighting, to tell the story of distraught men facing a changing world.

Purchase College students past and present share a more-than-impressive résumé due to their own successes and that of their college’s illustrious alumni. Kyle Abraham has had a major hand in adding to the latter with his acclaimed dance company, Abraham.In.Motion. The local legend is back at Purchase College, along with his company, for a special performance at the Performing Arts Center’s Black Box Theater that showcases the cutting-edge choreographer’s vulnerability, intimacy, and diversity.
