Come Fly With Me

PepsiCo’s 112-acre headquarters in Purchase didn’t always house America’s 30th largest public company. Before Pepsi purchased the picturesque plot in 1965, it was the site of the Blind Brook Polo Club. Amelia Earhart used the Polo Club’s fields to launch flights as she prepared to fly around the world in 1937. Earhart first moved to Harrison in 1932 after marrying renowned publisher and Westchesterite George Putnam. The current driving range of the Westchester Country Club became another of Earhart’s favorite runways when she wanted to fly “just for the fun it.” After she became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean in 1932, the Country Club hosted the official congratulatory dinner in her honor.
