April is a busy month for chocolatier and pastry chef Sabrina Berkowitz of Scarsdale. The reason? “Easter and bridal showers,” says the 31-year-old, who owns Chocolate Box NYC (646-413-3999), an e-tailer, founded in January 2008, specializing in handmade artisanal chocolates. Berkowitz’s bestseller: an exquisite chocolate Easter egg hand-painted with edible colored cocoa butter ($1.50). Formerly the marketing and sales director at Umanoff & Parsons Bakery in TriBeCa, Berkowitz works out of a commercial kitchen in the Bronx.
“I don’t crave chocolate being around it so much like I used to,” she says. “I’m kind of numb to it. Give me steak and eggs as a splurge and I’m happy.”
