Cross River resident Jill Proskin’s Who Wants To Be a Millionaire winnings, Mount Vernon Public Library’s Donna Hurwitz calls it quits following budget cuts and other news.

Tarrytown—The New York State Thruway Authority has officially chosen the companies that will build the new twin-span, cable-stayed Tappan Zee Bridge for roughly $3.1 billion before additional environmental and financial costs. Several companies will lead the project, including the Pennsylvania-based American Bridge Company, which built the original bridge in the 1950s.

White Plains—Mariska Hargitay, known for her role as Detective Olivia Benson on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, was spotted filming an episode of the show in the Westchester County Courthouse. Co-star and rapper Ice-T was seen shooting scenes on Mamaroneck Avenue and in Mount Vernon in November.

Cross River—Yorktown middle-school teacher and Cross River resident Jill Proskin won $17,750 as a contestant on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. The question that stumped her in the ninth round read: “What would Babe Ruth’s name have been if changed to reflect his jersey number in the same manner as football’s Chad Ochocinco?” (The correct answer was “Babe Tres.”)

Purchase—PepsiCo’s Purchase headquarters is undergoing a $10 million renovation that will take approximately 30 months to complete. In the meantime, nearly 700 employees have been temporarily relocated to the old Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide building in White Plains

Mount Vernon—After only three months in the job, Donna Hurwitz quit her position as chief of the Mount Vernon Public Library, from which Mayor Ernie Davis had proposed cutting $500,000. Upon resigning at the Board of Trustees meeting, Hurwitz said only that the job had “become unbearable.”
