You’ll find 1,077 acres of inspiration at Longwood Gardens, a must-see for anyone who appreciates landscape art that is exquisite all year long: waves of tulips and daffodils each spring, roses blooming all summer, chrysanthemums in the fall, holiday flowers and 500,000 lights in winter. There are cascading waterfalls and fountains that “perform” at dusk on select evenings, shooting water as high as 130 feet in tune to live music and lights. Fireworks & Fountain displays are also held thoughout the summer.
The four-acre conservatory, built in 1919, has 20 indoor gardens with 5,500 types of plants on display (we love the Orchid House and Tropical Terrace). The 20 outdoor gardens are accented with spectacular fountains (more than any other garden in the country) and waterfalls. New this year is the Beyond the Garden Gates program that allows visitors to go behind the scenes, seeing areas of the gardens that have never been open to the public, meeting staff, and learning some of their secrets.
