Best Eating and Drinking Experiences in Westchester: Family-Friendly

36 Elevation Burger
Did you swear off your beloved fast food after seeing Morgan Spurlock’s movie? Then this place is for you: Elevation’s fries are cooked in olive oil and its burgers are organic. It’s probably not much healthier when it comes to sodium and fat grams, but at least you’ll be able to meet your neighbors’ eyes when you come home with a bag.

37 Sushi Mike’s
Many kids love sushi—its colorful finger food with often silly names. No other sushi place does family-friendly sushi like the perennially crowded Sushi Mike’s, which offers “Out of Control Rolls” in a lively, completely unserious environment.

38 Pizza and Steaks at Solano’s Lincoln Lounge
This is about as old-school Westchester as you get: delicious, rectangular bar pizza and balsamic-drizzled steaks in a small, local restaurant that’s been family run since 1950.

39 Soup Dumplings at Noodle+
If you’re dithering about whether such-and-such place is family friendly, look no further than the walls at newcomer Noodle+. Its giant mural of kiddies slurping up noodles tells the tale—it also helps that this short, democratic, pan-Asian menu is perfect for the whole family (and the soup dumplings rival Joe’s Shanghai’s).

40 Baloney Sandwich at Blue Hill Café
Lying somewhere in the mythical land between “lunch singles” and mortadella hand-crafted by grandmothers in the Po River Valley, Adam Kaye’s house-made sausage with pickled onions is our idea of a lunchbox stuffer.

41 Walter’s Hot Dogs and a Malted
Sure, they’re disconcertingly pale and have mushy, incoherent buns. Plus, you’ve waited on a long, snaky line to get one, and now mosquitos are buzzing around you. Nevertheless, the Walter’s hot dog is so irreducibly perfect that we’ll suffer any indignity just to snap into those split ’n’ grilled links, especially paired with a sweating cup of Walter’s malted milkshake.

42 Papdi Chaat at Masala Kraft Café
This colorful little boîte of Indian street food offers casual, brisk service and vegetarian (not to mention kosher) fare. Look for crisp dosas with spicy coconut chutney, kathi rolls, and—our favorite—papdi chaat—crisp flour tortillas with chickpeas and chutney.

43 Dinner with Family at Polpettina
Small, brash, and perfectly on point, Polpettina offers locally sourced ingredients spun into serious comfort foods. Look for pizzas strewn with house-made mozzarella (stretched from Hudson Valley milk), plus meatballs, wedges, fries, and all your other addictions.

44 Lefteris Gyro
Fat, juicy gyros dripping with onions, tzatziki, and love—you’ll probably need an Altoid afterwards, but this cheap treat is worth it.

45 Churrasco at Copacabana
Absolutely. You could go to the glitzy new Texas de Brazil in Yonkers for an endless buffet of sushi, Italian cheeses, and hams before you are swarmed by the sword-wielding meat men—or you could drop into Westchester’s actual Brazilian churrascaria that offers actual Brazilian dishes like feijoada, pão de queijo, picanha, and farofa. Your choice: We don’t judge (actually, we do).

46 Dim Sum at Aberdeen
This weekend speed-feast is the necessary preamble to a leisurely shopping trip to Kam Sen Market, Westchester’s biggest Chinese-focused superstore. You sit, they roll in dim sum carts—nothing could be quicker. You’ll be in and out and stuffed in about 45 minutes (but take your time with the chicken feet—they’re delicious).
