Bedford Resident Ralph Lauren Criticized for Firing a 120-Pound Model for Being “Fat”

Ralph Lauren hasn’t been making too many friends lately. The Bedford-based designer’s company first came under fire for Photoshopping a model to give her impossible proportions—her head appeared wider than her waist. (The company threatened legal action against websites Photoshop Disasters and BoingBoing for reporting on the sickly image.) Then it came to light that the model in question, the 5’10”, 120-pound Filippa Hamilton, was fired for being “too fat.” According to the New York Daily News, “Polo Ralph Lauren said in a statement Tuesday night that Filippa is a ‘beautiful and healthy’ woman but their relationship ended ‘as a result of her inability to meet the obligations under her contract with us.’”
