Bedford Man Extradited from Guatemala in Child Sex Abuse Case; Pleads Not Guilty

Last week, 30-year-old Cesar Joel Sagastume Morales—a day laborer—was extradited from Guatemala in order to face charges that he sexually abused a 9-year-old girl from Bedford. He was taken into custody by Bedford police on Friday.

This morning, he pleaded not guilty to the charges, which allege that he abused the girl from Sept 1, 2005 to August 17, 2006. Local authorities charged him as far back as August 2006, but Morales fled the country before he could be arrested. He was last seen on August 18th, 2006, several hours after his last encounter with the girl.

He is now being held at the county jail in Valhalla without bail.
