Are you the type of person who sees things from every angle? If so, you’re in good company. From June 8th through July 31st, Gallery 25N in Peekskill (25 North Division St.) will host Painting from Three Perceptions 2004-2007, a one-person show by Peekskill-based artist Edward A. Burke—a painter with gift for multi-perspective observation.

“The first source is the most easily understood and forms the basis for most representational art. The second, the mind’s eye, is the store of observed images which each of us has from throughout our lives. Abstract works using this source will have recognizable images but will distort and manipulate them into new visual experiences. Finally, works from the id attempt to completely shut down the first two sources and rely totally on the stimuli from the unconscious coupled with an aesthetic reaction to the marks accumulating on the canvas. Works from the unconscious grow organically and, in their purest form, have no reference to the external world either observed or remembered.”

To check out Burke’s work, you can attend the artist’s reception on Friday, June 8th from 4-7 pm, or stop by the gallery on Saturday June 9th or Sunday June 10th from 12 pm to 5 pm, or visit from 5 pm to 9 pm on July 6th. Picture an elegant art gallery, with hoitey-toitey patrons quietly judging the works of artists who have nothing but disdain for every homemade art critic that passes by their “masterpiece” with a glare on his face. Not for you? Fear no more. On June 8th and June 9th the Westchester Art’s Council will throw its annual ArtsBash party in the Grand Banking room of the Arts Exchange (
). Twelve leading chefs from such notable restaurants as Trotters, Crabtree’s Kittle House, the Iron Horse Grill, MacMenamin’s Grill & Chef Works, Mulino’s of Westchester and more, will prepare food for the event, and guests will have the opportunity to preview Seeing Stories, an exhibition highlighting the work of Westchester-based artists. Some notable presenters will include Jerry Pinkney, Yumi Heo, Susan Jeffers, Peter Sis, and Ed Young.
The festivities begin on Saturday at 6 pm (tickets cost $100 to the Friday event) and continue on Saturday starting at 12 pm (the Saturday event is free). On Saturday, kids can participate in a comic book workshop with Nickelodeon Magazine contributor Charise Mericle Harper, have their faces painted, learn how to make a kite, or attend a reading with The Little Red Hen author/illustrator Jerry Pinkney.
