It’s hard to believe that our premiere issue of Westchester Home debuted in the summer of 2004. We believed that Westchester deserved a magazine celebrating the great design found throughout the county, along with local resources and businesses. We still do. For the past six weeks, I’ve been poring over the past 10 years of magazines, trying to choose my favorite designs. What struck me most was how many still looked fresh and inspired—even those a decade old—proving, once again, that good design never goes out of fashion. Making the final choices was difficult—kind of like choosing a favorite child—but we narrowed it down to 34 living rooms, kitchens, dining rooms, and exteriors. We hope you enjoy this stroll down memory lane as much as we have. Here’s looking at the next 10 years!
For those of you lucky enough to be invited to visit friends in the Hamptons, the Berkshires, and beyond, we have just one bit of advice: bring along one of the gifts that freelancer Laurie Yarnell discovered while researching our “Summer’s Most Fabulous Hostess Presents” feature—you’re sure to get a return invite.
Looking to move in the near future? “Home Staging 101” offers insider tips from local pros on how to spruce things up for a quick sale or simply freshen a few rooms. We also feature a glorious garden in Cortlandt Manor that was designed to be a draw for future generations. (Spoiler: The plan worked.)
While summertime is meant for unwinding and relaxation, we do hope that all the professional interior designers and architects take a little time out to submit their best projects for our Fourth Annual Design Contest. Winners will be featured in our Winter 2015 issue (see westchestermagazine.com/designcontest for details).
Happy Summer!
