Social worker Lisa Moir of Croton has taken over ownership of the small-batch Blue Pig Ice Creamery (121 Maple St, Croton-on-Hudson 914-271-3850) from Julia Horowitz. In an effort to use as many local products as possible, Moir is switching from a large East Coast milk distributor to Hudson Valley Fresh, a not-for-profit dairy cooperative in Poughkeepsie, New York, as well as shopping local farmers’ markets for fresh fruits and honey, among other ingredients. The Blue Pig ice cream offerings also now contain no artificial colors, artificial flavors, or high-fructose corn syrup. Flavors rotate daily and seasonally, but some favorites include pistachio, toasted coconut, rum raisin, and mocha crunch. One scoop costs $2.95, two $3.95, and three $4.95 (not including tax). The all-natural Blue Pig ice cream also can be purchased Friday through Sunday at Daisy Hill Farm (133 Guard Hill Rd, Bedford Corners 914-244-1132).
