What’s cooking when it comes to kitchen design? We asked Ryan Ko, president of Today’s Kitchens in Hartsdale and Stamford.
Clean Lines “Kitchen design follows a lifestyle,” he says. “And when people have a lot of things going on around them, they want something simple and clean.”
Natural Stone Countertops Granite is falling out of favor, Ko reports. In favor now: natural stones like soapstone and pietra cardosa.
Great Rooms The trend toward combining smaller rooms into one open great room space remains strong, says Ko. “Now that people cook, prep, and clean up together, a separate dining room is less important.”
Energy Efficient Light A desire to reduce costs and save energy is fueling increased use of LED lighting, says Ko.
Wood Floors Gaining favor is the four-inch or wider wood plank, rather than the standard two-inch oak. “People want something different from what they see everywhere else.”
The Color White “White was popular thirty years ago and probably will be popular thirty years from now. It’s one of those classic colors that will always be in demand.”
