Get Outside
Boundless Adventures Purchase
Take your gang to new heights at this aerial park complete with obstacle courses, zip lines, and climbing amongst the trees on the campus of Purchase College. The facility offers four levels of difficulty, so there’s an adventure suited for every skillset.

L.L. Bean Discovery Archery Course
New Rochelle
While the famous outdoor brand is usually associated with their headquarters in Maine, Westchester locals can also get in on classic L.L. Bean-style activities through their Outdoor Discovery Programs. The archery course is one of their most popular options for kids (8 and up) and adults and offers novices the opportunity to learn proper techniques for using a bow and arrow.
Wolf Conservation Center
South Salem
This organization works to rehabilitate and breed Mexican Gray Wolves and Red Wolves and frequently opens their doors to visitors for programs, photography workshops, and overnight camping adventures. While most of the wolves on the 26-acre education center are not exhibited to give them the best chance at reentering the wild, visitors do have a chance to observe the site’s two ambassador wolves.
Kayak Hudson
Sleepy Hollow, Tarrytown, Croton, and Rye
Take to the waters of the Hudson River or the Long Island Sound on a kayak or stand-up paddleboard (SUP to those in the know). With four outposts throughout Westchester, Kayak Hudson offers tours, rentals, and classes to those ready to make a splash. While lessons are geared for ages 14 and up, tours may be appropriate for kids as young as 10; suitability is based on a child’s age, weight, height, and strength.
NY Boat Co.
Peekskill
Board the Evening Star, a former US Coast Guard buoy tender, to get a new perspective on the mighty Hudson. Passengers can enjoy a quick 1-hour cruise with opportunities to view Iona Island, Bear Mountain, and Anthony’s Nose, or a 1.5-hour sunset cruise. And (because we know the kids will definitely ask) snacks—and beverages including beer and wine for the parents—are available to purchase onboard.
Muscoot Farm
Katonah
Visitors are welcome to explore Muscoot’s 777 acres through seven miles of hiking trails that traverse fields, woodlands, and wetlands. When you’re done, stick around to wander through what remains of a former dairy farm. The structure has been repurposed into an interpretive and educational farm which includes a dairy barn, milk house, icehouse, and blacksmith shop—and houses cows, goats, horses, chickens, and more. A seasonal farmers’ market and other events including a farm chore program and art shows are scheduled throughout the year.
Dinosaur Trail at Lasdon Park & Arboretum
Katonah
Your youngest adventurers are likely to love taking a walk on the wild side at Lasdon Park & Arboretum. The 234-acre property is home to numerous gardens, meadows, and walking paths, but any family’s first stop should be the unique dinosaur trail. Take a short, self-guided walk back in time—way back—to the Jurassic period where you’ll encounter multiple life-size, realistic statues which are sure to delight any dino-obsessed kid or kid at heart.
Rainy-Day Saviors
The Rock Club
New Rochelle
If it feels like you or your kids are climbing the walls in your house, why not check out a place where they can actually climb the walls? Visitors of all skill sets can test their agility with a variety of options including top rope, bouldering, lead climbing, and belaying. In addition to open gym times, the facility also offers Team Rock, a nationally ranked competitive youth program for climbers under 18.

Hudson River Museum
Yonkers
Visitors to this museum on the banks of the Hudson can experience an impressive collection of American art, an outdoor amphitheater, and Westchester’s only public planetarium. Every weekend, the venue also offers Family Art and Science Workshops where kids can create unique projects. The youngest adventurers can join morning stroller tours on the second Friday of each month, getting a chance to enjoy the museum before it opens to the public.

Monster Mini Golf
Yonkers
Putt-putt gets a spooky (and rain-proof) twist at this indoor amusement center. The lights are always out in the monster-themed, 18-hole glow-in-the-dark course, making it a little extra challenging. If golfing isn’t your jam, there’s also an arcade, laser tag, bowling, or virtual reality simulators.

For more than 50 years, families have been enjoying 13 miles (round-trip) of fun on the Bronx River Parkway—car free. This summertime tradition allows for anyone to bike, scooter, walk, run, skate, or otherwise enjoy the scenic parkway (sorry, no dogs or skateboards). Participants can join in along the route which begins at Exit 22 at the Westchester County Center and ends at Exit 4 at Scarsdale Road in Yonkers.
Run Wild Nature Center at Greenburgh
Scarsdale

Concert on the Lawn: Ranky Tanky
Caramoor Katonah

In July, the Grammy Award-winning, Charleston-based quintet Ranky Tanky performs music born from the Gullah culture of the southeastern Sea Islands. Concert goers are welcome to bring a picnic (or preorder one to pick up at the event) and lawn chairs or blankets. And for anyone needing to get the wiggles out, the 81-acre property is filled with lush gardens and plenty of peaceful walking trails.
