Remember Watson, IBM’s computer that won Jeopardy back in 2011? Well, we hate to be the bearers of bad news, but IBM is packing up his Yorktown digs and heading for a new home in the City—part of a $1B investment to turn the Watson brand and smarts into a cloud computing division.
Watson is growing into a new type of software that serves customers across all kinds of industries by learning and reasoning from information that you feed it–everything from hard data to books and articles. By moving to the East Village, IBM is hoping to lure the millennial tech crowd that’s flourishing in that area.
IBM’s headquarters will of course remain in Armonk, but we’d be lying if we said we wouldn’t miss having Watson in our back yard.
