Sometimes, artists touted as the “Best New Thing” fizzle out before they really get any traction, while others go on to prove themselves worthy of the distinction. Shelby Lynne is definitely in the latter category. After winning the Best New Artist Grammy in 2001, Lynne went on to release six more albums and a Christmas record. Her last one, the critically acclaimed Revelation Road, was described by All Music Guide as “the quietest record of Lynne’s career, but it feels like her rawest, too, even as it offers, in small bits and pieces, the varying shades, complexities, and pleasures in her musical world.” See her perform her alt-country-roots-rock music at the Emelin Theatre on January 11.
