Imagine a beautiful old Westchester County farm transformed into a day camp, and you will begin to understand the Mohawk Day Camp vibe. Founded in 1930, Mohawk is an expansive 40-acre camp with apple orchards, a year-round farm, 150-year-old buildings, and some of the largest trees in Westchester. But beyond its majestic campus, Mohawk’s allure is its ability to provide a farm camp experience while also supplying extensive offerings in aquatics, sports, and theatre arts (the campus is fully loaded with eight heated swimming pools, multiple sports complexes, and 12 craft and hobby centers).
Described as a teaching camp, one in every four staff members at Camp Mohawk is a New York State-certified teacher. With approximately 100 teachers on staff and an enormous focus on developing a growth mindset, Mohawk campers have fun while learning and growing all summer long.
With access to a working farm and orchards, it should come as no surprise that Mohawk offers campers a unique focus on wholesome nutrition and wellness, with a full-time nutritionist and full-time dietitian on staff, and farm-fresh produce provided every day. Lunch menus are always health conscious, and campers with food allergies and special dietary needs are always safe, explains Owner/Director Adam Wallach.
Animal Instincts
At Mohawk Day Camp, taking a nature walk among the alpacas, cows, sheep, goats, chicken, horses, and white peacocks is a normal occurrence. And for Mohawk’s littler campers, Pony and hayrides are just as common.
