This week we’ve put together some outdoorsy events to help you enjoy Westchester al fresco! So break out the sun screen and maybe just a light jacket, and prepare for a fun-filled weekend showcasing the majesty and community of our lovely county.
May 3-4
Just a casual reminder that this week is full of First Thursdays and Fridays in the arts community! Galleries are opening and wine is being uncorked, as the weather turns temperate enough for a sidewalk stroll along the river. First Friday Poughkeepsie is hosting Cinco de Mayo themed festivities at Mural Square, with craft beer, margaritas, and live music. In Yonkers, The Yonkers Gallery Group is opening brand new exhibitions at Philipse Manor Hall and Urban Studio Unbound on Thursday, May 3. Pop on down or grab a ride on the Metro-North, then take in the local art scene!

May the 4th Be With You
Alright, this one breaks our outdoorsy spring vibe, but we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to wish you a happy Star Wars Day! To celebrate, Yonkers Comedy Club is hosting a themed comedy night hosted by Cisco Aldorando featuring Jim Mendrino, Bob Kitson, Dino Vigo, and Anthony DiDomonico. Show starts at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $20 (+2 item minimum).
May 4-6
Tarrytown’s Lyndhurst Estate is hosting Spring Crafts at Lyndhurst, celebrating all the handmade goods from local crafters. Need a one-of-a-kind Mother’s Day gift? Seasonal centerpiece? Just want to get out and peruse through 67 acres of historic site? Snack on some gourmet foods while you’re there and make a whole day of the experience!

In New York, the first Saturday of May is always I Love My Park Day! Volunteer to get some fresh air and sunshine while helping to clean up Westchester’s amazing state parks, so that you and other residents can enjoy them all year long! You can register online at Parks & Trails New York for events at FDR State Park, the Old Croton Aqueduct, Rockefeller State Park, or even the Jay Heritage Center. (For added fun, consider taking a road trip to any of the dozens of state parks throughout the Hudson Valley!)

Looking to meet some furry friends? FDR State Park will also be hosting the SPCA of Westchester’s 2018 Dog Walk and Pets Fair. The no-kill, not-for-profit shelter has already surpassed their fundraising foal of $30,000 for the event, but there’s no limit on how much we can help our favorite non-humans!
