Westchester Magazine‘s fourth Burger & Beer Blast saw the most voting activity ever: more than 1,000 people voted on the burger they thought should win the Manhattan Beer/Blue Moon Best Burger Trophy. This sold-out event at Kensico Dam featured 28 restaurants competing for best burger, plus four food trucks (DoughNation, Walter’s Hot Dogs, Souvlaki Truck, and Jimmy’s Soft Serve), a Mercedes-Benz of White Plains Slovenia Vodka Lounge, and 2,000-plus attendees jamming to the reggae sounds of Royal Khaoz.
The winning burger was from Coals (who finished second last year) in Port Chester & Bronxville, with an all-beef burger topped by tequila-cured bacon, cheddar, and a spicy cilantro sauce.
Only a few votes behind was runner-up Eastchester’s Piper’s Kilt, which served a juicy cheeseburger with sautéed onions. License 2 Grill of Thornwood, a first time participant, finished third serving an Angus patty topped with caramelized red onions and triple American cheese on Texas toast.
Both Coals and License 2 Grill, and several other competitors, used meat from beef purveyor and event sponsor Schweid & Sons.
