Though rarely given the credit it’s due, there are few rock voices as impressive as the one powering the Pixies. (It’s no wonder every ’90s “alternative” band, from Nirvana to Radiohead, has listed the Pixies as an influence.) Frank Black (aka Black Francis) has been screaming out the band’s explosive choruses since it formed in 1986—and he somehow still has it in him to continue today. The band released a new EP in September and is heading out on the road—sadly, without founding bassist Kim Deal—and you can catch them at The Capitol Theatre on January 19. Just be prepared to scream.
