Here’s Where to Buy a Christmas Tree in Westchester

Don your coat and mittens, grab an axe, and head out on the hunt for the perfect tree at these evergreen Westchester fir traders.

With Turkey Day coming up, it’s officially time for Westchesterites to get in the holiday spirit. But before you can string up the lights, you have to find the perfect Christmas tree — or Hanukkah bush, right nana? — and to do that you’re going to want to hit up one of Westchester’s favorite locales.

Cut Your Own at Wilkens Fruit & Fir Farm

1335 White Hill Rd, Yorktown; 914.245.5111

Don your coat and mittens and hop aboard the tractor to ride out to the Yorktown Heights farm’s sloping fields of Douglas and Fraser firs. The process is simple: Wander the fields to find your perfect tree, consult the attached tag for height and pricing info, find a Wilkens staffer to borrow a saw, and get to work. All customers are required to make a $40 reservation, which acts as credit toward one tree. The field and pickup are open between November 26 and December 3.

(Alternatively, you can request that the tree be cut for you, but what fun is that?) From there, grab your claim receipt and wait for your tree to be trimmed, tied, and prepped for the ride home.

Choose Your Tree at Stew Leonard’s

1 Stew Leonard Dr, Yonkers; 914.375.4700

A Westchester holiday tradition, the Yonkers location alone sold nearly 20,000 trees in 2017. Sturdy Fraser firs and fragrant balsam trees arrive daily from the store’s Quebec farms. (Don’t worry: Two trees are planted for each one that’s cut down.) Outside, attendants help customers choose the right size and style before hauling them off for a fresh cut and wrap.

Plus, be sure to visit Stew’s holiday store during a visit. From lights and ornaments to wreaths, stockings, and tree skirts, it has everything else you could need to deck the halls.

Tony’s Nursery

2285 Boston Post Rd, Larchmont; 914.834.2172

At Tony’s Nursery you and your family can browse through the forest of Fraser fir trees, some as tall as 12 feet. Once you pick the perfect tree, the employees will wrap it and tie it to your roof.

Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard

130 Hardscrabble Rd, North Salem; 914.485.1210

Now that apple and pumpkin picking season has come to a close, Harvest Moon has shifted into tree mode. The North Salem farm is stocked with fresh-cut Fraser fir trees in all shapes and sizes. It’s open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Dobbs Ferry Christmas Trees and Wreaths

364 Ashford Ave, Dobbs Ferry; 914.625.8402

Support a small business this holiday season and purchase your Christmas tree from Dobbs Ferry Christmas Trees and Wreaths. The hotspot is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. everyday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving day. It’s located next to the Pride Cleaner in Dobbs Ferry.
