“Westchester’s Only True County Fair” Returns for Its 93rd Year

The Yorktown Grange is bringing the county fair back to Northern Westchester.

The Yorktown Grange Fair returns Friday, September 8 for its 93rd annual weekend of celebrating local agriculture. Locals will recognize the Yorktown Grange as “Westchester’s only true county fair since 1923.” (The Westchester County Fair at Yonkers Raceway made a comparably brief run at the crown from 1985 until its cancelation — due in part to construction projects — in 2003.)

Activities include games, livestock, and farm machinery displays and demonstrations, alongside classic fair contests like nail driving, water balloon tossing, and fan favorite: the pie eating competition. Prizes will additionally be awarded for everything from baking, painting, and flower arranging to Lego modeling, produce, and livestock specimens.

Entertainment will include live music by local groups such as local singer-songwriter Amanda Ayala (The Voice) and Unfunded Mandate, a classic rock band of educators and staff from Lakeland Central School District, all headlined by Over the Top, a “family” five-piece better recognized as country music singer (and Lakeland High School alumna) Jessica Lynn and her band. Mohegan Lake’s own Dance For Joy dance studio will likewise be performing. Those who are a little bit country will certainly want to also check out horse and oxen pulling, horseback riding, and “goat showmanship” exhibitions at the livestock tent.

As always, rides will run all day. Each costs about 3-4 tickets, and tickets run $1.25 each or $30 per 28. The smartest option, though, is simply to buy an unlimited wristband for $25 Friday or Sunday and $30 on Saturday.

Typical fair food will be served, but guests should keep an eye out for Jefferson Valley’s own Frankie and Augie’Z and Grand Central Market & Deli of Baldwin Place. A new addition this year, Roscoe Beer Co., Taste NY’s ‘Craft Beer of the Year’ will be providing libations in the designated drinking areas. Guests looking to bring home a little taste of the Grange can even pick up or preorder a copy of the exclusive Yorktown Grange Fair cookbook “Tastes from the Grange.”

Fair hours are 4-11 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $8 for adult and $5 for kids, seniors, and students with a valid ID. A special $2 senior dinner is also available from 4-5 p.m. on Friday. Discounted tickets are available online for customers purchasing via PayPal.
