Dracula, The Devil, and Frankenstein: Fall Westchester Performing Arts

Here’s where to find your favorite monsters this Halloween.

Catch Him at: Westchester Community College, Valhalla (914-606-6262; sunywcc.edu).

We don’t normally think of “Dracula” and “ballet” in the same sentence, but all that cape-swishing has a balletic quality to it, don’t you think? The Atlantic City Ballet certainly does, and on October 26 it’ll stage a ballet based on Bram Stoker’s novel. Audience members are welcome to wear costumes.

The Devil

Catch Him at: The Performing Arts Center, Purchase College, Purchase (914-251-6200; artscenter.org

You won’t just find the Devil—you’ll get his talking cat, too. The pair head off to cause trouble in—where else?—Stalin’s Moscow in a production of The Master and Margarita at Purchase College from October 18 to October 26. It’s based on Mikhail Bulgakov’s novel, which is esteemed alongside Russia’s greatest works of literature.

Dr. Frankenstein and His Creature

Catch Them at: The Ridgefield Playhouse, Ridgefield, CT (203-438-5795; ridgefieldplayhouse.org).

Trainspotting director Danny Boyle made a splash when he returned to his theatrical roots and directed the National Theatre’s Frankenstein, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller, who alternated the roles of Victor Frankenstein and his “creature” each night. (Now, both actors are sharing a role again, playing Sherlock Holmes on different television series.) You may not have been able to hop across the pond to see it, but the Ridgefield Playhouse will host a screening the production in HD on Halloween night.
