With current showings including Challengers featuring Zendaya and The Fall Guy with Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, movie theaters in Westchester are booming. To add to the mix, a new theater dubbed Apple Cinemas is set to open its doors tomorrow, May 16, in downtown White Plains.
The city’s latest theater will move into the space that occupied the Showcase Cinema de Lux on Martine Avenue. Apple Cinemas is a state-of-the-art movie theater chain in the Northeast with cinema locations in Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New York, Massachusetts, Maine, and Connecticut. This will be its second location in New York, with the other in Pittsford.
Movie-goers will be greeted by a newly renovated lobby, comfortable reclining seats, self-serve popcorn machines, and a soon-to-open onsite restaurant, BurgerFi. The chain restaurant will serve a variety of burgers, chicken sandwiches, burger and chicken bowls, and more.

“When Showcase pulled out, our full focus was on bringing a new theater operator into the space. Our thriving downtown worked in our favor, creating a great deal of interest in the theater industry. I am pleased to welcome Apple Cinemas to our community. Apple has made significant investments in upgrading the facilities and enhancing the ticket holder experience. An exciting new chapter in the long history of entertainment in White Plains is opening,” says White Plains Mayor Tom Roach.
Apple Cinemas will hold approximately 1,400 seats for both IMAX and Apple Cinemas Premium Large Format ACX screens featuring 4K LASER and Dolby ATMOS 360-degree immersive sound. To ensure an enjoyable viewing experience, Apple Cinemas partnered with IMAX to launch the IMAX theaters with lasers. This is a groundbreaking laser projection and 12-channel sound system that’s available at the White Plains location. The IMAX with lasers projection delivers increased resolution as well as sharper and brighter images.
