Normally, we wouldn’t consider a sale notable enough to mention as an event in and of itself. Considering, however, that Westchester loves its annual Zwilling Warehouse Sale, we’d be fools not to remind you to mark your calendars. Open just two weekends of the year (this one and once again at the end of the month), Westchester’s home chefs will be able to drop by the Pleasantville warehouse and cooking studio to snag deals of up to 80 percent off. Last year’s event was immensely popular with Westchester Magazine readers, so make sure to get up bright and early whether you’re stocking up on kitchen supplies before the holidays or just a few gifts for yourself and others.

Take the Polar Plunge with other Westchester crazy people residents this weekend, as you and upwards of 800 others (at least from last year’s estimates) freeze your skivvies off to raise funds for Special Olympics New York. Every plunger who raises at least $150 will get a free Plunge sweatshirt (which you’ll definitely be grateful for) and more prized for higher levels. To sign up to take part in this year’s plunge, you can register online.

If that doesn’t get you feeling frosty enough, drop by the first Christmas tree lighting of the season! While most official tree lightings aren’t scheduled for another couple weeks, the Cross County Shopping Center in Yonkers gets in on the action a bit earlier, kicking off the holiday shopping season at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Music with Movement from the Renaissance Youth Center will provide the soundtrack to the evening, while guests enjoy food, costumed characters, ice skating, and more. Guests can even schedule a visit with Santa. The tree lighting is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. and the event runs until 9 p.m. Entrance is free.

Sunday, November 18

As we begin the cacophonous celebratory joy that is the winter holiday season, we always try to make sure we are still giving back to those around us. Sunday night marks the 4th Annual Empty Bowls Westchester event, hosted by local nonprofit (914) Cares at Crabtree Kittle House. The evening will raise funds through ticket sales ($150 apiece) and various auction- and raffle-style drives to benefit local nonprofits that feed the nearly 200,000 people in Westchester County considered to be “food-insecure.” All guests will bring home a decorative bowl to remind them of the empty bowls throughout Westchester they have helped fill, while special “celebrity signed” bowls this year include those from Bill Clinton and James Patterson, Pinkalicious author Victoria Kahn, and Yankees All-Star Mariano Rivera (including four game tickets and a parking pass for the 2019 season, naturally).
